Amid Ongoing Writer Strike, The Directors Guild Of America Announces A Tentative Agreement With AMPTP
Ahhhh, yes, the negotiator, the DGA! After a very short back and forth with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the Director’s Guild of America (DGA) seems to have reached an agreement. The rumored Three Year contract contains many stipulations including increased wages and benefits, reduced hours, AI protection, streaming residuals, and more. The deal comes after the two parties spent all day Saturday negotiating with each other.
The increased wages and benefits include a 5 percent increase immediately, with additional raises coming in the next couple of years afterward, and some paid parental leave. There will also be AI protection to ensure that artificial intelligence won’t replace anybody currently within the guild. There will also be a 76 percent increase in foreign residuals for streaming for guild members. Assistant directors will also have an hour less of labor per day.

Russell Hollander, national executive director of the DGA stated“Every member of our union can be proud of the gains we’ve achieved across the board. Significantly, and for the first time, global SVOD residuals will be paid based on the number of international subscribers. The result is a 76 percent increase in foreign residuals for the biggest services. As our industry becomes increasingly global, these gains are imperative to ensuring our members are valued and compensated for their incredible work.”
While this continues, the WGA (Writer’s Guild of America), remains on strike. It is currently unknown if there is an end in sight for this strike.
