The Game Awards came packed with a slew of big announcements this year, from the revelation of a remake of Onimusha and a sequel to Okami, to the first look at The Witcher 4 and Naughty Dog’s new game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. But that wasn’t it.
It was also officially announced that Borderlands 4 is coming in 2025, and you can wishlist it now.
Borderlands 4 is the next in the lineup of the wildly successful main Borderlands campaigns, not counting the other spin-off games like Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. This also follows on the heels of the atrociously reviewed film adaptation with Jamie Lee Curtis, Kate Blanchett, and Kevin Hart, so it’s likely a welcome sign for fans of the series.

There doesn’t seem to be much revealed about it yet, but according to PlayStation Blog, it takes place on a planet called Kairos. Apparently, Pandora’s moon, Elpis, appeared above the planet, colliding with its protective barrier. This rained down meteorites and bandit masks. The game takes place years later, and there seem to be two factions at war that vault hunters will have to deal with: the Rippers and The Order. The Rippers are led by a queen named Callis, and The Order is an army of synthetic soldiers led by someone called the Timekeeper. The way the blog is written, though, and the way the trailer is depicted, it seems the Timekeeper is the main threat (pictured in the thumbnail).
Gearbox promises an exciting cast of new and old characters and claims that there will be split-screen co-op as well as 4-player teams for multiplayer online. There’s, of course, the standard claim of more loot than ever, which seems to increase with each game, but then again, it tracks with the genre of looter shooter.
Aside from a release date of just 2025, there is supposedly a plan to release a gameplay trailer sometime in early 2025, which could suggest a summer or fall 2025 release window.
