Carl Decides To Try Love Again In 'Carl's Date,' A New Animated Short From Pixar

Pixar is known for masterfully pulling at the heartstrings of its audience. The opening sequence of Up is a prime example. They are also known for the short films that play before their feature films. Carl Fredrickson is coming back to the big screen one last time for their latest short, Carl’s Date.

In her scrapbook, Ellie thanked Carl for their adventure together and told him to “go have a new one.”  He does have this adventure with Russell during the events of Up, but that wasn’t the end for Carl. He made a 2021 return in the mini-series Dug Days, which saw him move to the suburbs with the titular dog and showed the pair adjusting to life together.

In Carl’s Date, Carl reluctantly agrees to leave his comfort zone and go on a date. Not knowing how to get ready for his date, Dug steps up to help and be the man’s “wingpup.” While dates aren’t inherently romantic affairs, it does not matter whether this particular one is romantic or not. Carl is continuing to live and maintain some degree of social life as Ellie would have wanted instead of closing himself off.

Carl’s Date was supposed to be released on February 10, 2023, but was delayed for unspecified reasons. It will be premiering as the animated short before Elemental on June 16th.

Elementals presents Element City, a place where the four main elements live side-by-side. Two citizens, a fiery woman and a fluid man, discover their similarities under their core elements.

Tickets are not on sale yet, however, you can sign up for the notification on Fandango.
