Directors Guild Deal Draws Mixed Response From Members
Earlier in June, the Directors Guild of America struck a deal with Studios and Streamers to avoid a strike like the one that is currently going on with the Writers Guild of America. Soon after reaching the deal, the DGA announced the tentative pact calling it historic but some of its members are not so sure. During a meeting discussing the agreement, Guild negotiation team members acknowledged that they did not get everything that they wanted but stated, “The things we didn’t get, we’ll get the next time around.”
Early on, DGA members expressed a wide range of opinions on the deal. One dual member of both the Writers Guild and the Directors Guild said they did get significant gains with this deal and that the DGA was already in a much better position than the WGA. On the other hand, another member said, “The leverage we had was historic and the negotiation committee and DGA leadership squandered it.”
The Directors Guild had until June 23rd to adopt the deal, and that did happen, with 87% of the voters agreeing to adopt the deal. During the process, the WGA has asked members to refrain from commenting or tweeting about the deal reached.
