Several months ago, a deal was brokered for the Embracer Group to acquire Middle-earth Enterprises.  During Mipcom Cannes, a gathering of many entertainment professionals to compete for content and broker partnerships among other things, ACF Investment Bank CEO Thomas Dey gave some more insight on the deal.

Dey was the man to broker the deal, believing “this asset has the ability to get to [Marvel and Star Wars’] scale” as long as someone has “the belief that this can be as ambitious as it can be.” The Embracer group is meant to take this up. They hold the rights to several parts of this intellectual property and intend to make their moves.

The Embracer Group has quite the name in the gaming community, operating many studios across the world including Gearbox Entertainment and Saber Interactive.  CEO Lars Wingefors, who spoke during Mipcom as well, acknowledges the strength they hold in terms of game development:

“Having 10,000 developers in the group means we are thinking about what we can do with the IP going forward and this justifies value for us.  And then we have a number of amazing opportunities to do ‘transmedia’ projects. We can power creatives to succeed with their goals and dreams.”

Embracer has the will and the means to utilize Middle-earth Enterprises and all it gives access to, to its fullest extent. Currently, they present themselves in a way to match Dey’s beliefs with their unique prowess and sizable developer staff.
