Ewan McGregor Comments On The Likelihood Of A Second Season Of 'Obi-Wan' At 'Star Wars' Celebration
Star Wars Celebration shared a lot of good news this weekend, filling fans with hope for the franchise’s future. Unfortunately, one major hope was dashed; the third day of the celebration featured “A Look Back at Obi-Wan Kenobi,” a retrospective of the series with stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Indira Varma, Vivien Lyra Blair, and executive producer and director Deborah Chow. Star Wars fans cheered for the panel to show their support for the series. McGregor, for his part, shared his enthusiasm for the role: “The Star Wars part of my life is back and it feels so good. It was just the right time to come back and do it again. Hopefully, someone might think we should do some more.”
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who was also present at the Celebration, confirmed that the company currently has no plans to pursue a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. She explained:
“That is not in active development. But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well received and Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everyone [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”

Although it seems unlikely that Obi-Wan Kenobi will see a second season, there may still be room for McGregor’s character in some upcoming Star Wars projects. The character is alive during the events of Andor, and if his presence distracts from the larger plot, they can always go the Force ghost route. On the other hand, the reaction from the crowds this weekend may inspire Lucasfilm to change course and find more of Obi-Wan’s story to tell.
