Gamers have generally been worried about what they see as part of an ongoing upward trend for video game pricing, possibly explaining the intense focus on this rumor in particular.
This rumor has also fueled speculation that the $150 price tag may only reflect a “deluxe” or higher tier package for the game and that the “basic” tier package would be closer to the average $70 price tag, which would be more in line in terms of affordability for most gamers. Some have speculated that the rumors about Grand Theft Auto possibly having a significantly higher price tag may be the result of the latest installment of Grand Theft Auto costing Rockstar around 2 billion dollars to produce, as well as the possibility of the new installment having a long shelf life, like Grand Theft Auto 5, which lasted for a decade.
