Jinkies! Max Animated Show 'Velma' Renewed For Season Two
Back by… popular demand? HBO recently announced that the animated show Velma spearheaded by Mindy Kaling, will be returning for a season two despite the first season's negative reception. This news comes out of the Annecy Festival, which is a festival focused on animation. HBO took to the stage to announce that the streaming platform has not seen the end of Velma yet, along with a slew of other animated shows coming to Max in the near future.
Though it does stick with uncovering mysteries, the Velma show is a much different take on the Scooby Doo franchise; while it relies on humor, it is strictly for adults. As one may infer from the title, it focuses on the Velma character but does include the rest of the gang.
Coming as a bit of a surprise to some after the show did not do as well as they had hoped, earning a 40% from critics and a 7% from the audience, which surely includes those who may have reviewed the show. Though according to ComicBook.com, its premiere broke HBO Max’s views record for an animation series.
All the noise aside, the show has no release frame yet, but at least fans of the show won’t have to be concerned about its future.
