John Boyega Will Star In A Prequel Series To 'The Book Of Eli'
After shooting to public recognition with his role as the Stormtrooper-turned-Resistance-hero, Finn, in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, actor John Boyega is set to star in and executive produce a prequel series to the 2010 surprise hit film, The Book of Eli. The Book of Eli, which starred Hollywood actor Denzel Washington and featured Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis, was set in an apocalyptic post-nuclear catastrophe world and featured Denzel as the titular Eli, who travels and fights through the bleak, apocalyptic landscape with a sacred book that holds the key to the salvation of the human race.
The film, The Book of Eli was set 30 years after the nuclear catastrophe. The prequel series will reportedly be set 30 years prior, meaning that the series will take place at the time of the catastrophe or in its immediate aftermath. Boyega will play a younger version of Washington’s character, Eli. Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, After Earth) is the creator/writer/executive producer of the series. The series is being produced by Alcon Entertainment, the studio that produced the film. The series is currently being shopped around for a buyer, which has been a slow process. However, it is believed to be the caliber of series that should attract a buyer.
