Like the TARDIS is so much more than just a spaceship, the costumes of the various Doctors have always been more like simple clothes. Jodie Whittaker, who played the Thirteenth Doctor, worked with the show's costume designer to create her outfit consisting of blue high-waisted culottes with yellow braces, a navy blue t-shirt with a rainbow stripe across it, a lilac-blue trenchcoat with a hood, brown lace-up boots, and blue socks, while David Tennant's ensemble for his fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor is very similar to the one for his Tenth Doctor.

Another staple of the show is that the Doctor usually doesn't change his costume very often (or rather has many specimens of the same costume). This will likely change with the fifteenth incarnation of the famous space traveler, played by Ncuti Gatwa, the first black Doctor in the history of the show.

New photos leaked from recent shootings now show Gatwa wearing still brown, but noch checkered and much baggier trousers, white sneakers, and a yellow/golden polo shirt. This look is somehow similar, thus definitely not the one from the publicity photos.

Even before that, Gatwa has shown a sense of extravagance when it comes to the costumes of the Doctor. In early October, he was spotted wearing a brown checkered kilt, a leather jacket, a yellow t-shirt, and boots with high socks on set.

And in April, photos showed him wearing a very 70s-looking blue suit.

And these definitely won't be the only costumes the Doctor will wear in the upcoming season of Doctor Who.

It seems as if fans will have to get used to not only seeing the first black Doctor but also to an alien who is – to quote the Kinks – "a dedicated follower of fashion".
