Live-Action 'Naruto' Appears To Be In The Works

After a pretty long period of silence, an update has finally come for the live-action Naruto adaptation. In Variety’s 2023 list of screenwriters to watch, it is confirmed that Tasha Huo is adapting the Naruto IP into a script for Lionsgate. Huo is known for her work as a writer for The Witcher: Blood Origin, and a creative for Red Sonja, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, and Mighty Nein. Her experience in the field of adapting well-known IPs is pretty hefty!
Naruto is a pretty massive IP with a lot of lore to utilize and consider. The manga series was first officially published in 1999, the original run stretching to 2014 with 72 volumes. The anime adaptation of the story, Naruto, lasted for 220 episodes and created unique filler content to keep pace with the manga. Another main series, Naruto: Shippūden, featured a small timeskip and continued to adapt the manga for 500 episodes. Some of the current story has focused on Naruto’s son in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. This doesn’t account for other spinoffs, video games, films, and more. With Huo’s experience in adapting well-loved IPs, Naruto seems to be in good hands.

Specific details for the adaptation are few and far between at the moment. As the project appears to be in the early stages of development, details will follow as things progress.
