Long-Time Assistant Director Jamie Christopher Has Passed Away At 52
Filmmaker Jamie Christopher sadly passed away on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023, at his home in Los Angeles at age 52. British Born, Jamie Christopher was an integral part of the Marvel machine, having been involved at some level since Thor: The Dark World. He executive produced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and had signed on again for Fantastic Four.
Christopher was not just known for Marvel, however; he was connected to some of the biggest films in Hollywood. He worked as First Assistant Director on all eight Harry Potter films, but he was also behind the scenes on GoldenEye, The Fifth Element, and Alien 3. Rian Johnson and Christopher were a particularly successful pairing, coming together on Knives Out and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Rian liked him so much that he gave him an onscreen cameo in Star Wars: Resistance pilot Jaycris Tubbs is canonically the face of the First Assistant.

Tributes have been pouring in from crew, cast, and colleagues. Marvel executives Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito put out a joint statement offering their condolences: “Jamie was a beloved member of our Marvel Studios family, and he will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.”
Mark Hamill tweeted “Very sad to hear of the passing of Jamie Christopher. Aside from being one of the best ADs I've ever worked with, I'll always remember how his deadpan humor kept us all amused & motivated to give our absolute best. #GoneTooSoon”
