Netflix Moving Ahead With Animated 'Magic: The Gathering' Series
As nerd properties start hitting mainstream media more often, the king of trading card games is now getting its own Netflix series. Terry Matalas is now in charge of the series originally announced in 2019 and had Marvel’s Russo brothers step down in 2021. "It’s happening! Netflix’s MAGIC: THE GATHERING animated series is now in production from showrunner Terry Matalas in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast." Netflix’s Geeked Week announced on Twitter.
Two characters have appeared on a recently released image, with fans of the TCG speculating that they might be white planeswalker Ajani Goldmane and red planeswalker Chandra Nalaar, although no official word has been released yet. "Those new to this sprawling saga will learn what millions of fans who play every day already know. Magic is the ultimate storytelling sandbox, brimming with iconic, complex characters, extraordinary mind-bending powers, and portals to every genre imaginable. It is also a powerful reminder that no matter what culture, country, or plane of existence you come from, we can all unite and become heroes together." Maltas recently said.
There is currently no timeline for the show’s release.
