Del Rey Books has been publishing select Star Wars Legends titles under the banner of “Essential Legends” and, in many cases, publishing new audio editions for those essential Legends books that currently only have abridged audio editions or no prior audio editions. There was a pause in the publication of new audio editions, however, Del Rey recently announced that they have resumed production of new audio editions from several different points of the Legends timeline, including Outbound Flight, Survivor’s Quest, The Courtship of Princess Leia, I, Jedi, and Yoda: Dark Rendezvous.

Outbound Flight and Survivor’s Quest form a duology about a joint Jedi Order/Republic expedition to another galaxy, as well as the fate of that expedition decades later. Chronologically, Outbound Flight is set between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones and features a younger, pre-Empire Thrawn, still with the Chiss Ascendancy, coming into contact with the Jedi Order-led expedition, as well as Darth Sidious’ clandestine attempts to sabotage the expedition.

Set decades later, Survivor’s Quest features Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade being summoned to the Chiss Ascendancy to investigate the aftermath of the Outbound Flight expedition. Both novels previously only had abridged audio editions, with Survivor’s Quest being more difficult to locate. The full-length audio editions will be narrated by veteran Star Wars audio edition narrator, and voiceover artist Marc Thompson and released on 12/19/2023.

The Courtship of Princess Leia, set after Return of the Jedi, features Han attempting to prevent Leia from marrying a Prince to seal an important alliance between the New Republic and the noble Hapans. The novel also introduces Dathomir and the Nightsisters, which were reintroduced into Canon in The Clone Wars and, more recently, Ahsoka.  It previously only had an abridged audio edition available.  It will be narrated by January LaVoy and released on 01/23/2024.

I, Jedi introduces Corran Horn, a Correllian Security (Corsec) Officer who later becomes a pilot with Rogue Squadron for the New Republic and, later, Jedi Master in Luke Skywalker’s New Jedi Order. It previously only had an abridged audio edition. It will be narrated by veteran Star Wars audio edition narrator Jonathan Davis and released on 01/23/2024.

Yoda: Dark Rendezvous is set during the Clone Wars and features Yoda investigating Count Dooku’s possible willingness to meet and discuss an end to the Clone Wars. It previously only had an abridged audio edition.  It will be narrated by Marc Thompson and released on 01/23/2024.
