New Writers Announced For The Next Season Of 'Doctor Who'

The TARDIS is gearing up for an epic return in 2025, and Doctor Who fans have plenty to be excited about. Russell T Davies will remain, but a fresh lineup of writers are joining the team! Davies assembled a fresh, fun roster of Juno Dawson, Inua Ellams, Pete McTighe, and Sharma Walfall for a new mix of literary, television, and theatrical talent to the Whoinverse.

Davies said of the new lineup: “Doctor Who takes its talent from a glittering galaxy of names, and these extraordinary writers span the skies. We’ve got old hands, new stars, voices from the theatre, radio, and literature, the whole works!”

Juno Dawson is a bestselling author and screenwriter for her blockbuster novels such as Her Majestry’s Royal Coven and the non-fiction book This Book is Gay. Dawson became a fan as a ten-year-old after watching the series with her grandmother. She said, “From writing fan-fiction for an audience of one to scripting the best TV show of all time is truly a dream come true.”

Inua Ellams’ notoriety comes from his poetry and playwriting background. His play The 14th Tale was awarded a Fringe First at the Edinburgh International Theatre Festival. And this was his first play!

Doctor Who fans may already be acquainted with Pete McTighe, who wrote the Thirteenth Doctor episodes, Kerblam! and Praxeus. He’s also written and executive produced several other drama series, such as The Pact, The Rising, and Wentworth.

And Sharma Angel-Walfall comes to the team after winning the Channel 4 New Writing Award. From there, she wrote one episode of Dreamland and has worked on other series such as Supacell, Renegade Nell, and Noughts & Crosses.

Fans are eager to discover what this new team will develop for the highly anticipated 2025 season!
