Rosario Dawson sat down with Entertainment Weekly in June (before the beginning of the SAG-AFTRA strike) to discuss her pre-casting fangirl status of both the Star Wars franchise as a whole and especially the multi-dimensional character that is Ahsoka. She has seen every episode of The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and most recently Tales of the Jedi. Once more she excitedly trained for months to fight ambidextrously with her lightsabers, not to mention the countless hours that the actress had to spend in makeup and of course prosthetics. Despite all the work and time involved, Dawson has been described by all those on set as having endless energy and even being the embodiment of sunshine.

When asked by EW how excited she was about her casting, Dawson chuckled as she explained, that she did literal jumping jacks. "I remember seeing Jon and Dave's faces, like, 'Ooh, did we make the right decision? She's a little bit… hyped fangirl.'" Considering that her casting was first suggested through fan art that Dawson excitedly reshared on social media, Filoni knew ahead of time what a fan she was of the character. He told EW at the London Star Wars Celebration that "The whole thing kind of came together for [him] with Rosario when we talked with her and when she put on the costume and became Ahsoka. I was like, 'You know, this is going to work.' It really was as simple as that.”

When asked about Ahsoka’s development Dawson recalled the animated series with excitement as she discussed the character’s transition as she is seen at the end going to white. She remembers discussing with Filoni how Ahsoka is "someone very capable and excellent and looked up to as a leader, but she still has levels of development to go." When asked about her hopes for the final product the actress said that first, she is most hopeful to receive Filoni’s seal of approval. After that she, "really, really hope[s] the fans love it." That means A) we get to do more and B) we've honored the legacy of this character and this journey, and I know that's what we intended to do." One thing is for sure if there is more work for Ahsoka in the future, there is no one better suited to don the trademark Togruta lekku than Rosario Dawson. Ahsoka premiers on Disney+ on August 23!
