Hopes are high as it seems the actors guild SAG-AFTRA and the alliance of studios, the AMPTP are edging closer to a deal. The two sides met again over the weekend of October 28 and 29. After several recent stalemates between the studios and the union, some inside sources described these talks as productive.

Although the talks have been improving, there were still tough talks, especially regarding the use of AI and the question of residuals. In a post on X, SAG-AFTRA told its members that they discussed all open proposals including AI with the AMPTP over the weekend. Both sides decided to take a break and work separately on Monday, October 30 before reconvening that evening to plan out schedules for more talks.

Speaking to Deadline a guild source said, “There is a feeling of optimism.” A studio source shared, “Looks like we’re in the final stretch.” The hopeful feelings come from lawyers being present at the meeting. This is often a sign that a deal is within reach. The union and the studios will both be relieved to put the 100-plus-day strike behind them as projects get delayed and actors struggle to keep their bank accounts above the red. However, SAG-AFTRA is being extremely cautious to ensure a fair deal and protection against AI technology. Hopefully, a deal will be reached soon, and everyone can return to work.
