Following the recent release of the Scott Pilgrim anime on Netflix, fans of the franchise may need to look elsewhere for more Scott Pilgrim content, as it seems the series will not be receiving a second season anytime soon. In an interview with Rolling Stone, creators and executive producers Bryan Lee O’Malley and Ben David Grabinski revealed that they currently don’t have plans to make a second season of “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” as they deliberately chose to make the series a self-contained story with very little left to be explored.

Grabinski states: “We put everything we had into this, and we think it has a really great ending that we’re proud of. I don’t make any plans in general. Maybe some day one of us will text each other an idea that’s really great for a Season Two. But for now, my entire brain and heart is in this thing, and just getting it out into the world.” O’Malley also states: “I never say never, but right now, it seems like it would take about 50 different miracles simultaneously for another season to happen. So we’ll see.”

Considering the current climate at Netflix currently, and the recent cancellations of multiple shows including Glamorous, Farzar, Agent Elvis, and Shadow and Bone after only one season, it is not surprising that the creators would put everything they have into one season so that nothing is left unexplored if the series were to be canceled unceremoniously, leaving many plot threads hanging. While Scott Pilgrim Takes Off does briefly tease the idea of a follow-up in a post-credit scene, this appears to be nothing more than a one-off gag with this news.

Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is an animated reimagining of both Grabinski and O’Malley’s graphic novels and the live-action film directed by Edgar Wright, playing off of events from the movie and remixing them to create a fresh new take on the story. The series is now streaming on Netflix.
