'Star Trek: Discovery' And 'Captain Marvel' Star Kenneth Mitchell Dies After Battle With ALS

On February 24, after a five-year battle with ALS, Kenneth Mitchell died. He was 49 years old. His family released a statement on X and Instagram saying, “With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend.” He left behind two children, Lilah and Kallum, and his wife, Susan May Pratt.

According to IMDb, Mitchell had 58 credits to his name. His career started with a short in 2000 called No Man’s Land. Most recently he appeared in three episodes of 2022’s The Old Man. Other credits include CSI, NCIS, and The Astronaut Wives Club.

Mitchell was well known to comic book movie fans as well as sci-fi fans. In 2019, he appeared in Captain Marvel as Joseph Danvers, Carol Danvers’ (aka Captain Marvel) father. He also played four characters across six episodes of Star Trek: Discovery. Three of the characters were Klingons, Kol, Kol-Sha, and Tenavik and the other was called Aurellio. He also leant his voice to three characters, Black Ops Officer 2, Romulan Guard 1, and Tweerk Captain, in one episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks.

After his diagnosis, Mitchell and his family dedicated themselves to enjoying their time together. His family said, “Regardless of his later disabilities, Ken discovered a higher calling to be more fully himself for his kids. Ken will be forever proud of who his children have become.”
