'The Drew Barrymore Show' Is Once Again Without Writers, As They Have Decided Not To Return Due To Drew Barrymore's Actions During The Strike

Drew Barrymore has been in the hot seat as of late as she made what 20/20 hindsight would prove to be an unpopular choice in attempting to bring back her daytime talk show before the official end of the writer’s strike.
A SAG-AFTRA rep stated that “The Drew Barrymore Show is produced under the Network Television Code, which is a separate contract and is not struck. It is permissible work and Drew’s role as host does not violate the current strike rules.” However, Drew experienced considerable backlash, and within a week of the announcement to return, she ultimately changed her mind. This decision led to the co-head writers choosing not to return to the show when the strike was over. These writers have been with The Drew Barrymore Show since the beginning of Season 1.

With the official end to the strike, the show is back in production on its fourth season and expected to return to broadcast on October 16. Unfortunately, the head writing team of Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon, and Liz Koe have declined the invitation to return.
White, Kinon, and Koe were not privy to Barrymore’s decision before her public announcement. The trio did not find out from their boss or colleagues but rather discovered the news on social media. White told THR that, “It is a bummer to hear that the show is going back because it sends a message that union writers are not valuable.” Kinon said “I understand that everybody has to do what they feel is best for them. For me and the WGA writers on the show, it’s important for us to stick with our union. We deserve a fair contract, so we are here today outside.”
