WWE Reaches Exclusive Ten-Year Streaming Deal With Netflix For 'Raw' From 2025

Next January, Netflix is looking to become a wrestling hub. The streaming platform signed a deal with WWE’s Monday Night Raw. The live pro wrestling series will debut on Netflix in January 2025. For the past thirty years, the show has always been released on standard TV, marking a big shakeup for Raw. Netflix’s $500 million per year deal gives the streamer exclusive rights to stream the show for ten years. The streamer can opt out of the deal within the first five years or decide to extend the deal. The previous rights holder NBCUniversal was only spending $250-$260 per year, so Netflix is investing a lot of cash on this latest venture.
Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria shared her excitement at securing the show, “By combining our reach, recommendations and fandom with WWE, we’ll be able to deliver more joy and value for their audiences and our members. Raw is the best of sports entertainment, blending great characters and storytelling with live action 52 weeks a year and we’re thrilled to be in this long-term partnership with WWE.”

At the other end of the deal, WWE president is optimistic that Netflix’s popularity will be good for the show. Mark Shapiro, head of WWE’s parent company TKO called the deal transformative. He said, “It marries the can't-miss WWE product with Netflix’s extraordinary global reach and locks in significant and predictable economics for many years. Our partnership fundamentally alters and strengthens the media landscape, dramatically expands the reach of WWE, and brings weekly live appointment viewing to Netflix.”
The deal benefits both sides given the cost of the deal. Since Netflix will have exclusive access, Raw fans will have to sign up for the platform and log in every week to watch the show. Netflix is obviously hoping that once they log in, they’ll stick around to browse or stream and become regular users of the platform.
