Young Shelob Will Be A Featured Character In ‘The Rings Of Power' Season Two
“But still, she was there, who was there before Sauron, and before the first stone of Barad-dûr; and she served none but herself, drinking the blood of Elves and Men, bloated and grown fat with endless brooding on her feasts, weaving webs of shadow; for all living things were her food, and her vomit darkness.” – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The website, Fellowship of Fans, has reported a major exclusive leak about the second season of the Amazon Prime Video series, The Rings of Power, a prequel series to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings book and movie series. A younger version of Shelob, the giant spider demon featured in The Two Towers (book only), and The Return of the King, the penultimate stories in The Lord of The Rings trilogy, will appear in the second season.

Fans of the series will remember Shelob as the giant spider that temporarily incapacitated and captured Frodo as he, Sam, and Gollum entered Mordor in their quest to return the Ring to its place of origin, Mount Doom, to destroy it. Sam later freed Frodo from Shelob, giving her a serious injury in the process. In the books, Shelob is said to have existed since ancient times, making her appearance in the prequel series, set in the so-called “Second Age” of Middle Earth, perfectly plausible.
The specific nature of her appearance is as yet unknown, however. Fans will have to watch the second series to find out who encounters her, where, and under what circumstances. Shelob is not believed to have ever been a minion of Sauron per se, however, he likely maintained a watch on her. Her lair, which is situated in Ered Gorgoroth, was beneficial to Sauron as it offered Mordor some “natural” protection against intruders.
