'The Mandalorian': Where We Ended And What To Expect In Season 3
The Mandalorian Season 3 is only a couple of days away. The newest trailer which was released during the NFL Super Wildcard game a few weeks ago and the TV spot released during the Super Bowl gave more insight as to what we will see in this new season. Grogu and Din will venture to the planet of Mandalore at some point, and Bo-Katan seems to be the antagonist. There is a lot happening in the new season, but let’s backtrack, and revisit what Din and Grogu had to go through to get to this point.
We were first introduced to Din Djarin as a Mandalorian bounty hunter. He would take a job, complete it, turn the person in, get paid, and take another one. Things were going smoothly for Din until his next contract, which was none other than the cute little green Yoda-looking creature. Instead of turning the little guy in, he decided to help him. The Imperial Remnant who originally hired him was not happy about this turn of events, and sent in troops in pursuit of “The Child.”
RELATED:
After Din and his allies succeeded in escaping the Empire’s grasp, the two then went on a journey to find Grogu’s people. They ran into many familiar faces like Bo-Katan Kryze and her clan, who showed Din that there are other Mandalorians out there and some who do not follow the same creed as him. They also met Ahsoka Tano who was able to communicate with The Child and revealed his name to be Grogu. Din tried to have Ahsoka take Grogu to train him in the way of the Force, but she declined. She did point him in the direction that he and Grogu needed to go.
Grogu ended up being captured by Moff Gideon and the Empire. Din assembled a team to rescue him. In the process, Din ended up fighting Moff Gideon and won the Darksaber in combat, to the dismay of Bo-Katan. As Din fought, a familiar X-wing starfighter came flying in, bringing a hooded figure who defeated the near-invincible death troopers fighting Din and his crew. As the smoke cleared, the figure removed his hood, revealing himself to be none other than Luke Skywalker.
Luke volunteered to take Grogu and train him in the way of the Force. It appeared Din had finally succeeded in reuniting Grogu with the Jedi. The Season 2 finale then gave fans one of the most emotional moments in the series when Din removed his helmet so that Grogu can see his face one last time.
With the introduction of the fan-favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett, during Season 1 of The Mandalorian, the end of Season 2 led to the creation of his own show. The Book of Boba Fett depicted how he survived being swallowed by the sarlacc, and rose to become the new daimyo of Mos Espa on Tatooine. Boba Fett’s story intertwined with Din’s once more when he called for the Mandalorian’s help in the fight against the Pyke Syndicate. The new spin-off series also gave some insight into Luke’s training of Grogu. At some point, Luke gave Grogu an ultimatum: to stay and become a Jedi, or return to Din. It was not until the finale that Din and Grogu were finally reunited, even if it was in the midst of battle.
So where do we go from here? The trailers have shown that the pair will venture to Mandalore, which as we all know, is not in the greatest shape at the moment. Din must travel to the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore to cleanse himself of his past transgressions so he can become a Mandalorian once more. There will most likely be a fight between Bo-Katan and Din, as she needs to rightfully claim the Darksaber in combat in order to take her place on the throne of Mandalore. Moff Gideon is still at play even though not much is known about his current status. I highly doubt he will remain captured for long. It will also be interesting to see if Grogu will become both a Mandalorian and a Jedi.
Season 3 has a lot in store for fans. It will be awesome to see the planet of Mandalore in live-action, even if it is in ruins. Din and Grogu will have a lot to deal with on their journey through the galaxy. However, they are not alone. They do have allies scattered throughout, and most importantly, they have each other.
The Mandalorian Season 3 premieres on March 1st, 2023 on Disney+.
