The king of the transmedia is not taking a rest at all. Announced back in 2020, The Acolyte follows a former Padawan who reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes. Leslye Headland, the show’s writer, producer, and showrunner, stated “I think you see more morally ambiguous characters than you've seen in other Star Wars content,” and “I don't think you're going to see action in other shows the way that you see it utilized in our show.”

Set in the late days of the High Republic era, the expectation is very high for this new project; it has amazing potential, and its current ambiguity allows it to explore various settings and stories. As part of those possibilities, here are five things to look for in The Acolyte:

5. Jedi Presence Across The Galaxy

During the High Republic era, the Jedi were a separate group from the political leadership. However, as the amount of Jedi across the galaxy was at an all-time high, they were vowed to their duty of protecting and helping those planets and civilizations that required help, which happened during the Rise of the Nihil, when Jedi temples took refugees from planets that were attacked.

As a result of those attacks during the Rise of the Nihil, the Starlight Beacon space station was destroyed, and thousands of beings perished when it ripped in half. The top half fell to the planet Eiram while the bottom half became a setting for violence and chaos among the survivors. Even though this event surely happened years before the starting point of The Acolyte, it was a key event for the fall of the Galactic Republic, and its aftermath may continue to affect the show’s timeframe.

3. Young Count Dooku

During the final days of the High Republic era, Count Dooku was born and taken in by the Jedi Order, eventually becoming Yoda’s Padawan. The time matches perfectly to explore the story of how Dooku derailed from the Light, in addition to the influence the Forbidden Artifacts had on the Rise of the Sith. Those events are a turning point in the Star Wars universe; hopefully we’ll be able to see them in more detail.

2. Master Yoda:

As mentioned above, Yoda took Dooku as a Padawan. This earlier version of Master Yoda will likely be as wise as he was when he died; after all, he was already over 700 years old when he trained Dooku. During this time, however, the Jedi Order took over the Republic’s newly formed army. Yoda became the leader of this military force and served as a General for three years. He later exiled in Dagobah, living a simple life to his last day.

1. The Galactic Republic’s Political Problems

Long before the events of the war, the Republic clearly began having problems with certain systems. All these disconformities shifted political and economic power, causing a series of trouble for the Republic's efforts. Attacked from multiple fronts, it was only a matter of time until the Republic was replaced by the Galactic Empire. It was a process, not an overnight event; there are small details that get overlooked in all these shifts of political power, and maybe we’ll see new prerequisite details in this new installment of the story.

As of now, we are still unsure of what stories the series will target specifically. Not many names have been revealed yet, nor have any other important events from the timeframe for this particular show. The production is based in the United Kingdom, unlikely to be directly affected by the ongoing writers' and actors’ strikes

The Acolyte will release on Disney+ in 2024. Be ready for a refreshing perspective on this vast galaxy.
