Critical Role is where a “bunch of nerdy voice actors sit around and play Dungeons & Dragons”. It is streamed weekly on Thursdays on Twitch and YouTube. The group is currently in its third campaign. The company has grown, even since leaving Geek and Sundry. They even have their own publishing company, that focuses on roleplaying games. While they still playing Dungeons & Dragons, they are branching off into new RPG systems. Their newest adventure is called Candela Obscura and will be streamed on the last Thursday of each month. The game will feature Laura Bailey, Ashley Johnson, Robbie Daymond, and Anjali Bhimani. It will be GM’ed by Matthew Mercer, and will also feature Taliesin Jaffe as the Lightkeeper.

Candela Obscura will use the mechanics of a new roleplaying game published by Darrington Press called Illuminated Worlds. Illuminated Worlds is a D6 RPG. It’s specifically designed for shorter, narrative-driven campaigns.  The new show will follow a group of characters, with vastly different backgrounds, who come together to fight a mysterious and magical force. Candela Obscura takes place in the fictional world of the Fairelands, a coastal valley in the country of Hale. The series was created by Taliesin Jaffe. Chris Lockey. Spenser Stark and Rown Hall serve as lead designers and writers. The series is directed by Steve Failows and co-produced with Maxwell James.

The new role of the lightkeeper is an “enlightened veteran” whose job it is to guide the players through the various twists and turns the world throws at them. The Lightkeeper, in this case, Taliesin Jaffe, will appear at the beginning of each game, to give a prologue to set the stage for the viewers.

Candela Obscura will debut May 25th, on the Critical Role Twitch and YouTube channel.
