Doctor Who is about to enter Season 2, though really, it’s more like Series 16. Disney Branded Television and the BBC jointly announced the release date, Saturday, April 12 at 12:00 a.m. PDT / 3:00 a.m. EDT, on BBC 1 and Disney+ where available. The season will be running for eight episodes, which will premiere weekly. Ncuti Gatwa returns as the Doctor; Millie Gibson will be returning as Ruby Sunday as well, but the main companion appears to be Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu. Guest Stars include Alan Cumming, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Christopher Chung, Anita Dobson, Michelle Greenidge, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave and Susan Twist.
The synopsis for the season is as follows: “The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return, and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies, and wider terrors than ever before.” New and old characters are sure to show up; Whovians have undoubtedly recognized some of the names on the list. The new Russell T. Davies era is entering its second (or third) year, and only he knows what’s going to happen next. Get ready to step back into the TARDIS, and then we’ll find out!
