Due To Trump Tariffs, Nintendo Pulls Back On Pre-Order Date For Nintendo Switch 2

Less than two days after the Nintendo Switch Direct, showcasing the new system and its new games, President Trump announced his plan for raising tariffs, in his uninspired attempt to curtail development outside the United States. These included tariffs on Japan.
In response, Nintendo has rescinded its announced retailer pre-order start date, which was to be April 9 here in the US, as it evaluates the impact of these tariffs. They did clarify that the launch date of June 5 remains in place.
What does this mean? It means the already steep price for the new system, $449 for the base system, and $499 for the bundle with Mario Kart World, could get even higher. These prices could change as early as April 10 when these could potentially go into effect. Trump claims that he is still negotiating with these tariffs, which is clearly meant to be a strong-arm strategy to get countries to comply with his agenda. By imposing tariffs on countries that we import from, he hopes to bring manufacturing and business back to the United States after long years of many jobs being outsourced to countries for cheaper labor and regulations.

While there is some logic to this, tariffs this steep have a notorious history that tends to repeat every century. Due to agreements between the United States and countries around the world, free trade has tended to shift many jobs overseas. The trade-off is cheaper goods here, and if there’s one thing Americans prize above all else is cheap goods and convenience. Needless to say, this news has not gone over well on the markets, which are in a tumble, and the unbrainwashed realize the trouble that comes with this type of action. Similar style tariffs were enacted in the late 1820s and the late 1920s to achieve similar goals and were quickly followed by economically devastating depressions.
This news of a delay is not going over well in a gaming community that is already reeling from the sticker price of the system and the jump in game prices. Games for the Nintendo Switch 2 could range from 70 to 90 dollars, potentially heralding in a new era in game pricing that many have feared was coming soon, especially with rumors that Grand Theft Auto 6 would fetch a hefty $100 price tag.
As with the rest of the world, we remain watchful on the news and will see what develops.
