IGN Sat Down With The Stars And Showrunner Of 'Fallout'
If you can spare the time from watching the groundbreaking reveal trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, Prime recently released the trailer for their adaptation of the Fallout video games, releasing in April of 2024.
Vanity Fair recently published a piece with the first images of the show. IGN then sat down with showrunner Jonathan Nolan and Graham Wagner, as well as Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, and Walton Goggins, the three actors tagged to star in the upcoming show, to talk about the highly anticipated series.

IGN starts out talking to Nolan about the planning process for the series and working alongside Todd Howard, who directed Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. He talked about how Todd Howard held out on adapting the games for the right moment, the right person who could do it justice. Nolan was a big fan of the games, and the two came together to make a vision for the direction of the series.
The conversation moves on to Ella Purnell’s character (Lucy) and Aaron Moten’s character (Maximus). They’re both naïve and will be shaped by the wasteland as they go on, guided by Goggins’ The Ghoul. Nolan jumps in to talk about how through discussions with Howard, they decided on this new approach to the Fallout formula. Typically, the game is told from a single perspective, but this time, the story will be told through the three intertwining stories of Lucy, Maximus, and The Ghoul bounty hunter to explore the nature of humanity and their own.
Goggins jumps in and talks about the show with Wagner, about how The Ghoul will serve as a sort of guide for the characters and the audience. Goggins reveals the character’s real name, Cooper Howard, and that we’ll come to learn more about his past as the show goes on. Goggins describes him, against the other two characters, as the one who just embraces the world as it is. He’s seen some stuff, having survived for over 200 years, and Lucy and Maximus’s naïveté will come up against his lived experience and pragmatism in a harsh landscape.
There’s still a lot we don’t know about the show and what brings the three characters together. There is, however, a hint of hope beyond just one season; Graham replied to IGN that they have a multi-season plan, but they couldn’t talk more about it.
Fallout premieres on April 12, 2024 on Amazon Prime Video.
