Michael Reaves, Emmy Award-Winning Editor For 'Batman: The Animated Series,' Passed Away At The Age of 72

Writer Michael Reaves passed away this past Monday, March 20th after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is best known for his work as a story editor on Batman: The Animated Series.
Born in San Bernardino, California on September 14, 1950, Reaves displayed an interest in writing at an early age. His short stories were rejected by many magazines until he was accepted by the Clarion Science Fiction Writers’ Workshop. After moving to Los Angeles, Reaves would work at a bookstore and at Sears before beginning his professional writing career with an episode of The Secrets of Isis and two adult novels. He would contribute to many major cartoons of the 80s, including Star Wars cartoons (Droids and Ewoks), Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, The Real Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Smurfs.

During the 90s, in addition to Batman: The Animated Series, he also worked on Peter Pan and the Pirates, Gargoyles, and Spiderman Unlimited. He was one of the writers for Mask of the Phantasm, which was the first Batman: The Animated Series movie.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Brynne Chandler; and three children, including daughter author Mallory Reaves. He will be missed.
