‘Mission: Impossible’, ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ Among Super Bowl Movie Trailers

Many of us watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, no matter which teams are playing. This year’s offerings haven’t disappointed me, especially seeing the movie trailers. Watching some of these makes me a lot more excited to go to a theater than wondering who is going to win the big game!
How To Train Your Dragon (June 13)

Real-life Mason Thames, playing the Viking Hiccup, meets animated Toothless in the trailer that dropped tonight. Nico Parker is Astrid, Nick Frost plays Gobber, and Gerard Butler is Stoic.

Here is the synopsis of the movie:
With the fierce and ambitious Astrid and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
Lilo & Stitch (May 23)

Like How To Train Your Dragon, this is also a remake. This trailer did not show actual movie footage but somehow reminded me of when there was a real-life situation where a raccoon ran loose during the Broncos / Raiders game on October 8, 2024, in Denver. Unlike the real raccoon, once Stitch is finally caught in this clip, Disney decides to “sign him IMMEDIATELY!” It stars Maia Kealoha, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, and Chris Sanders, the original voice of Stitch, as well as Courtney B. Vance and Zach Galifianakis.
Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (May 23)

Also coming out Memorial Day Weekend, Tom Cruise will make his final run as Ethan Hunt while dazzling us all with his own stunts in the eighth installment of the Mission: Impossible series. We know from November’s teaser trailer that "the fate of every living soul on earth" depends on Ethan Hunt getting an AI program called The Entity before the wrong person (or people) do.
Thunderbolts* (May 2)

Not only did this trailer drop during the Superbowl, but you could see the full-length trailer at the same time online. Another offering from Disney, this time from Marvel Studios, we get a group of superheroes who will protect the American from an evil threat. Thunderbolts* stars Florence Pugh as Yelena, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Alexei aka Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell's John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko's Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster "Black Widow," Hannah John-Kamen's Ava Starr/Ghost and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Jurassic World: Rebirth (July 2)

Looking ahead to the American Fourth of July weekend, we can anticipate another installment of the Jurassic World franchise. A longer trailer dropped a few days ago, but there was a 60-second spot for the Super Bowl. This movie stars Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson, and Mahershala Ali, not to mention many mutant dinosaurs that were too dangerous for the original Jurassic Park.
