Russell T. Davies Excited For New Season Of Doctor Who, Says 'One Of The Greatest Things I've Ever Made In My Life.'

For fans of British shows there are two inalienable truths: first, you’re not getting more than 5 or 6 episodes in the season and second, you’re going to have to wait forever between those seasons. It seems like ages ago when Doctor Who season 13 ended with the regeneration of The Doctor from Jodie Whittaker back to David Tennant in what is a set-up for the series 60th anniversary which is coming later this year however still not officially confirmed by the BBC.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 2 to check in on progress with both the 60th anniversary special, the Christmas special and the gateway to the new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa, Russell T. Davies the returning showrunner, says he can’t wait to grow the “Whoniverse”. While the new season is still in post-production, he says that episode 4 of the new season which he is editing is “one of the greatest things I’ve ever made in my life” and considering he wrote Who episodes ‘Turn Left’, ‘Midnight’ and the best spin-off series Torchwood: Children of Earth then it must be good. The director of the episode Dylan Holmes Williams, confirmed Davies's excitement saying he was also really excited about what was created.

In addition to the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate for the 60th Anniversary series and Tennant regenerating into Ncuti Gatwa, Doctor Who Magazine issue #588 found how Disney money is revitalizing the series by not just increasing budgets to do things like using drones to film scenes and utilizing VFX from Marvel Studios as per VFX coordinator Sian Reynish, “We’re using top-of-the-range technology, the kind that Marvel films use…which I think is pretty spectacular. It means Doctor Who is at the forefront of pushing the boundaries.”
In addition to these new bells and whistles, BBC announced a return to a multiverse like in the early days of Nu-Who with The Sarah Jane Chronicles and Torchwood with a new series featuring UNIT and lead Jemma Redgrave who plays Kate Stewart who runs the titular division of the British government who works with The Doctor when he is on earth throughout the 60-year history. This series will run alongside season 14 of the main series which we can expect to start in 2024.
