Fans of the Star Wars Legends novels have been treated to reprints of select stories since 2021. The Essential Legends Collection, as the label is known, serves to reprint popular series and singles from the old continuity. Five waves of releases have already happened, with this year bringing two more.

The Essential Legends Collection started strong with its first two waves by bringing The Thrawn Trilogy back to bookstores. Wave 7 is returning to the work of Timothy Zahn with Outbound Flight and Survivor’s Quest. Both books explore the Chiss across different periods, with the former being a pre-Clone Wars novel and the latter taking place in the post-Imperial era.

Since Thrawn is coming back in a big way with the new canon, releasing old material that ties into his character is a way of capitalising on that expected popularity. Also capitalising on the popularity of something is the start of the Republic Commando series. Penned by Karen Traviss, the series explores the humanity of clone troopers and their Mandalorian heritage. As the series progressed, it further studied Mandalorian history. Hard Contact will be a part of wave 6, while Triple Zero will be a part of wave 7.

Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void and Yoda: Dark Rendezvous will also release as part of wave 6, with The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance being a part of wave 7. One would hope that future waves of releases bring the rest of the Republic Commando series back to bookstores, as well as more of those of the Clone Wars multimedia project. For this writer, both offered a great insight into the clones before The Clone Wars arrived to show that insight on screens.

The sixth wave of the Essential Legends Collection reportedly releases May 23, with wave 7 releasing August 15.
