Book 'Twisted Love' To Be Made Into A Netflix Series
Netflix has reported bought Ana Huang’s steamy novel, Twisted Love, along with its sequels. The streaming service reportedly cut a seven-figure cheque to the author for the rights.
These contemporary romances are fast-paced and angst-ridden. The flashy characters have money and power, and there’s always a brooding dark antihero. Ana Huang bases plots around tropes (fake dating, enemies to lovers, royal dating), so the format will be familiar to many who read New Adult, Romance, and Romantasy.
The books have been translated into thirty languages and sold more than 12 million copies to date. Twisted Love spent over 60 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list, in part due to its popularity on the social media app, TikTok. The #TwistedLove hashtag has received over two billion views. Ana Huang’s Kings of Sin series also takes place in the same universe, so Netflix might find themselves paying out again if Twisted proves popular.
Out of the top five of Netflix’s most-watched original shows of 2024, two were romance (Emily in Paris, Bridgerton), showing that there is a market for this genre. Bridgerton, season 3 was the second most-watched show, only being beaten out by Fool Me Once. Twisted Love will lend itself well to adaptation and could be breaking this list if they land the right showrunner.
