There hasn’t been a Doctor Who television spin-off series since 2016. A new series, the first spin-off in nearly a decade and the first of the Disney Doctor Who era, is actively in the works! The return of an alien race that first appeared in the 1970s is approaching in the upcoming series The War Between the Land and the Sea. In a comment to Doctor Who Magazine, showrunner Russell T Davies gave a brief status update for the project.

The creator explained (via Nerdist), “It’s my job to hype, but the hype for that show is still way, way off — it’s far from transmission.” While this update implies that a release date won’t be coming soon, it also confirms that the series is actively in development.  On a positive note, Davies continued, “Here, right now, in the cool, dry downloads of a distant gaze, I can tell you… that’s one of the greatest shoots of my life and one of the greatest shows of my entire career. You can doubt me and cry hype… and get left behind. Oh my God, it’s good!”  While a release window doesn’t seem to be in the cards in the near future, the series is actively being worked on and will be something to look forward to.

It will focus on the return of Sea Devils and UNIT’s efforts to contain the threat.  Once released, the series will be available to stream on Disney+.
