The end of season one of Ahsoka made it all too clear that Lucasfilm had bigger plans for Baylan Skoll when the former Jedi stood on the giant stone hand of the Father (one of the Immortals from the Mortis trilogy of The Clone Wars), looking at a mountain top in the distance where a light was blinking.

Sadly, actor Ray Stevenson, who has given Skoll such a gravitas passed away in May 2023, only three months before the show premiered.

Since the conclusion of season one, fans have been wondering if Skool's character would be removed from the second season altogether or if Lucasfilm would hire another actor to play the charismatic villain, and it now seems that we have an answer to this question:

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Scottish actor Rory McCann has been cast to play Skoll in the second season of Ahsoka, which is set to begin filming this April with a possible release onDisney+ in 2026.

RELATED:

The 55-year-old McCann is best known for playing Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in 38 episodes of Game of Thrones between 2011 and 2019. Still, his first acting job was interestingly another Lucasfilm project: Willow (1988), where he was cast as an extra but soon fired, because he laughed during the takes.

Among other films he also appeared in films like Hot Fuzz (2007), XXX: Return of Xander Cage (2017), Jumanjii: The Next Level (2019), and most recently, Gladiator II.

Depending on the size of Baylan Skoll's role in season two of Ahsoka, it remains to be seen if Lucasfilm will actually use McCann's likeness for Baylan Skoll or if they apply a digital version of Stevenson's face on that of McCann's.

They had already used this technique when they recreated Peter Cushing as Willhuff Tarin, a young Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia for Rogue One, and later a younger version of Mark Hamill to reprise the role of Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
