As part of a series of reveals entitled “The Path to Pandora” for the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash due for release at the end of this year, Empire Magazine has given us a look at the Ash Village, home of the Mangkwan Clan, also called the Ash Clan.

A new tribe to the world of Avatar, much like the The Wind Traders, or Tlalim Clan, which are also set to appear, the Ash Clan suffered a natural disaster that has since shaped their history and culture. Their hometree is a charred, smoldering wreck, and their world has been dramatically reshaped by this event despite once living similarly to the Omatikaya, the clan Neytiri is from, which dominated the first Avatar. They are led by the fearsome Varang, played by Oona Chaplin, who rides a Nightwraith, the fearsome aerial creature also one of the images shown in the preview article.

Shot back to back with The Way of Water, Fire and Ash will show greater complexities within the Na’vi and will continue to expand and build the world of the highly successful franchise. Just what turn the story will take next is uncertain, but given the relatively short period between these two installments of the franchise, we will likely see substantial fallout from the events of Way of Water.
