The latest project to have the involvement of George R.R. Martin has released a trailer giving us a look at its characters and the film’s plot.

In The Lost Lands is based on a short story of the same name written by G.R.R. Martin, though this adaptation has had a difficult period of development. First announced back in 2015, when Milla Jovovich was first cast, the film went dormant until 2021 when it picked up steam. Now ready to release after four more years of work, the film’s plot focuses around Jovovich playing a sorceress, Gray Alys, led by her drifter guide, Boyce (played by Dave Bautista), through the wilderness of the Lost Lands in search of a magical power for a queen. In this quest, they will confront both demon and man, something the trailer demonstrates well.

There are undoubtedly high hopes riding on this film, despite its long time in development. Not only has G.R.R Martin’s Game of Thrones expanded into a wider universe with spin-offs in the form of House of the Dragon, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, and more on the way, but he lent some ideas to the wildly successful video game Elden Ring. While there are arguments about how much of Martin’s influence is present in that game, he still contributed, and the success of all these projects might mean In The Lost Lands will do well because of that connection.

The film will be released on March 7th, 2025, though the film trailer erroneously states a release during the winter.
