Perhaps fans of CS Lewis’s interrupted adaptation of the Chronicles of Narnia films from the mid-2000s will have the rest of the story retold. Acclaimed director Greta Gerwig will be adding another film to her roster alongside Ladybird, Barbie, and the 2019 re-telling of Little Women. According to narniaweb.com, “Netflix has officially announced that Greta Gerwig’s first Narnia film will debut exclusively in IMAX theaters for a four-week run beginning Thanksgiving Day 2026.” Gerwig’s involvement with a film has the potential to re-establish the Narnia series, create a new fantasy franchise for a new generation, and reignite the fans of the world first created by CS Lewis.

A project with much promise and anticipation, filming of Netflix’s Narnia is scheduled to begin in July. Not only does this signal to fans the possibility of being reunited with Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, but it is expected that Aslan will be gracing his presence on screens. Aslan's return can potentially extend the film’s theatrical release window. Netflix’s CEO Ted Sarandos has “approved the plan” after months of negotiations. Narniaweb.com states, “IMAX has guaranteed a two-week theatrical run, a third week could be added based on demand.” Meanwhile, discussions remain about “a possible expansion” into non-IMAX theaters before its streaming debut.
