'Star Wars Outlaws' Wasn't The Best Selling 'Star Wars' Game In Europe In 2024
Ubisoft has been in a bad state in 2024, with many of its releases underperforming. Including Star Wars Outlaws, which seemed a sure success from its announcement. Ubisoft has been pretty quiet in giving exact figures for its sales, but a feature by former GamesIndustry.biz journalist, Christopher Dring, has a partial answer.
That feature looks at the current state of Ubisoft, and how the company could survive amid its issues. In mentioning the failures of the past year, Dring mentions that across Europe, Outlaws placed 47th in the best-sellers list of 2024. A position lower than that of 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. One major factor helping Survivor is it's having an entire year of sales rather than just the last third of the year. The other is the version that was released on the previous generation of consoles in 2024.

Even so, Star Wars games usually bring a lot more success for those from large publishers. Put into context, data from September 2024 showed that across Europe, Star Wars Outlaws sold half of what Jedi: Survivor managed with its current generation version in 2023 during the first week. Outlaws sat at number two for August 2024 sales, not being able to beat the more than ten-year-old juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto V. In comparison, Jedi: Survivor took the top spot on April 2023’s European sales chart, despite only a few days of sales.
Ubisoft is now likely banking on the coming Assassin’s Creed Shadows for some success. Meanwhile, the company is looking for ways in which it can stay in business, including making itself a more attractive proposition to invest in. Or outright buy. As for Star Wars Outlaws, the second of its expansions is soon to release, bringing Hondo Ohnaka and Kay Vess together for an adventure.
