In just about a week, the long-awaited return of Daredevil to the screen, and his second official MCU treatment, will air on Disney+ in Daredevil: Born Again. With much of the cast from the Netflix show reprising their roles, there are other additions to the cast that hail from other MCU rosters.
Everyone’s well aware by now of Vince D’Onofrio’s return as the Kingpin, not only from the promotional material but the revelation in Hawkeye that he was the big bad of New York City. He’s not the only Hawkeye veteran to be making an appearance in Daredevil. It’s been recently revealed that Tony Dalton, who played the seeming love interest of Kate Bishop’s mother in Hawkeye, will return to play Jack Duquesne, also known as The Swordsman.
Duquesne, in Hawkeye, came off initially as a villain, but by the end, we find out that he was framed. The real villain was Bishop’s mother, who was working with Kingpin. The name of the new show, Born Again, refers to a common Christian concept of people who are, later in life, discovering Christianity or even rediscovering it. It’s an interesting choice for a show about a devoutly Catholic man since it’s typically used by Evangelical circles, but given Duquesne’s demise and being framed, it could perhaps also symbolize a redemption arc for the character, a sort of rebirth.
There won’t be much time to wait to see how it plays out. Daredevil: Born Again airs on March 4 on Disney+.
